Gifted and Talented

Mildred Independent School District

Gifted and Talented Program

Gifted and Talented students are those students who perform at, or show the

potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others at the same age, experience, or environment.  They typically

exhibit high performance capabilities in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area.

Many GT students also possess an unusual capacity for leadership and can be found among those who excel in a specific academic field.

The Gifted and Talented Program at MISD exists for students to develop essential academic skills and acquire a knowledge base on which to build lifelong learning.

Students will be provided the opportunity to develop their ability to think logically, independently, and creatively.  They will also learn to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively.

Nomination to the Mildred ISD Gifted and Talented may be made through a referral process initiated by a teacher, parent, or anyone who recognizes GT qualities in the student being referred.  Referrals are accepted between

January 5th of each year through March 5th of the same year. Screening takes place in May, and those students meeting the requirements of the program will begin receiving services in the fall of the following school year.
