Neil Haag is in his fifth year as a band director at Mildred ISD, and his second year as High School director and Jazz Band director. Prior to his appointment as head director, Mr. Haag led the Junior High band at Mildred to its first-ever UIL sweepstakes award in 2017, where the band earned a Superior rating in both UIL Concert and UIL Sightreading competitions, and repeated this achievement in the Sightreading room the following year.
The Mildred High School Band has earned multiple Superior ratings in UIL events each year since before 2014. In 2017, it earned its first-ever Sweepstakes award for superior Marching, Concert, and Sightreading performances. They repeated this tremendous achievement in 2019. The band also appeared at the World Strides Onstage Performance in New York City in 2018, where it earned the Gold Award in its class. The Marching Band is an active participant in community events such as the Mildred Veteran's Day program, Navarro Homecoming Parade, and Mildred Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Mr. Haag is an alumnus of the University of Texas at Arlington, where he performed in the Wind Symphony, Marching Band and Symphonic Orchestra. He is a member of TMEA, TBA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Before teaching at Mildred, Mr. Haag served on staff at Rice Consolidated ISD as Junior High Director and woodwind specialist.
In his spare time, Mr. Haag enjoys reading, playing the clarinet, and re-watching the MCU. Mr. Haag lives in Athens, TX with his beautiful wife, Stacy, who directs the bands at Mabank Intermediate.
