  • The End is Near!

Blake    Wow!  Just 3 more days after today and all of those are early release days!  This has been a great year!  I think we must have the best teachers and students in the state of Texas!  Thank you for allowing us the privilege of teaching your children!

Next week we have some important events:

    •    Tuesday - Early Release - 12:20
    •    Wednesday - Kindergarten Promotion - 10:00 am and Early Release - 12:20
    •    Thursday - Awards program in Lane Gym - 9:00 am and Early Release - 12:20

My plans for Thursday are to have the teachers pass out report cards in the morning before the awards assembly.  You could then come to the elementary after the program and sign your children out.  Students who owe library fines or have cafeteria charges will need to have those paid off before they receive their report cards.

Please keep your children reading over the summer.  The Corsicana Public Library has a summer reading program.  Students may also work on our Study Island program during the summer.  The link for Study Island is:  http://www.studyisland.com/web/index/  and your child should know his/her log-in name and password.  If they don't, please call the school and I can give that to you!

If you haven't checked out our Facebook page, please do so!

Have a great summer!  We'll see you in August!

The school year is coming to a close at a rapid pace!  We only have one more Monday!  Next week is our last full week of the school year.

I wanted to make all of you aware that our email system will be down from 10:00 am this Friday (May 10) through the weekend.  We are changing to a new email system.  All of our email addresses will remain the same.  We should be back online by Monday morning, but as most of you know, there are sometimes glitches with technology.  If you email a teacher next week and don't receive a response, please give us a call at the school.

Field Day is now scheduled for Friday, May 17.  We are hoping that the weather will cooperate with us and allow us to have the high quality event that we usually have!

If any of you enjoy air shows, please come out to the Corsicana Air Show.  It is scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at Campbell Field (the Corsicana airport).  The gates open at 9:30.  There are usually a wide variety of airplanes on display including many World War 2 era planes.   I believe the flying starts at noon.  This is always a fun event for your children!

Blake    This has been a very busy week for all of us, but Friday is finally here!  I was very proud of our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who took the STAAR test this week.  Almost all of them seemed to be taking their time and trying to do their best on the test!  The younger students helped them by being very quiet in the hallways!

This morning we had face painting and tattoos to help raise money for our Relay for Life team.  We made $225 to help fight cancer!  Thank you for allowing your child to participate!

Next Friday, May 3 we will be hosting our annual Field Day!  This will be held at Asby Field on the high school campus.  The National Honor Society students will be helping run events and will be running a concession stand.  Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to help with Field Day!

Blake   Can you believe we only have 34 more days of school?  This year has flown by!  This past Friday our Principal Club reward was an extra recess for Principal Club members.  Mrs. Garrett and I supervised during the recess and I think we had as much fun as the students!  We plan to do that several more times before the end of the year.  Some of you may be wondering what the qualifications are for Principal Club membership.  Basically, it is just being a good and responsible student!  Principal Club members should always do their best in class (that doesn't mean that they will always have excellent grades - just excellent effort) and should not have major discipline referrals.  If a student is in Principal Club and is not making good choices, that student will be put on suspension from the club until their teacher or I feel that they have regained their position in the club.

Next week we have the second round of STAAR testing!  On Tuesday, April 23, our 3rd and 4th grade students will take the math test.  Wednesday, April 24, the 3rd and 4th grade students will take the reading test and our 5th grade students will take the science test.  Please help your child prepare for the test by ensuring they have a good night of sleep!

Blake     The first round of STAAR is finished!  We had a good week!  I was so very proud of our fourth and fifth grade students for taking their time on the tests and trying to do their best!  I was also very proud of all of our students who were not taking the tests.  They helped the fourth and fifth grade students by being very quiet in the hallways!

We've had quite a few parents here today for kindergarten round-up!  If you were unable to attend today and you have a child who will be starting kindergarten during the next school year, please make arrangements to register your child as soon as possible.  This really helps me determine the number of classes we will need for next year.

Please don't forget about the PTO meeting on Monday, April 8.  Some of our award-winning oral readers will be here to entertain you!   The meeting will be held in the elementary cafeteria and will begin at 6:30.

As of today, we have 41 school days left and 6 more Mondays!  But then, who is counting?

Blake   A STAAR is just on the horizon!  April 2-3, our fourth grade students will take the writing test and our 5th grade students will take both the reading and the math test.  Please help your children be physically and mentally prepared for this test by ensuring that they get a good night's sleep and have a good breakfast.   We will have a small breakfast available to them prior to beginning the test, but if they usually eat at home in the morning, please be sure they do that!  I know that our teachers have been working very diligently to have our students prepared to perform their best, but we need your help too!

Congratulations to all of our Youth Expo participants.  Mildred students excelled in the different divisions and we are very proud of them all for their hard work and preparation!

Congratulations also to our GT students who participated in Consumer Decision making.  They placed first at the county meet!

Our Kindergarten registration is scheduled for April 5 from 8:30 - 2:00 .  If you have a child who will turn 5 on or before September 1, 2013 and you plan for that child to attend kindergarten next year, please make arrangements to be here on April 5.  This really helps me as I plan for the upcoming year!  To register your child, you will need to bring the following documentation:  birth certificate, social security card, immunization record; proof of district residency; and parent's driver's license.  We look forward to seeing you on that date.

Please remember that we do not have school on Friday, March 29.  Enjoy your long weekend with your children!

Blake    We had a great day yesterday!  The week off was very beneficial and gave both the teachers and students a much needed break!  Now we can focus on preparing for the STAAR tests and look forward to the summer.  If I did my math correctly, we only have 54 days of school left!  That is amazing to me!  This year seems to have flown by!

I want to thank all of you again for your Book Fair participation!  We had a very successful Book Fair.  The teachers are very grateful to all of you who purchased a book for their classrooms.

Next week will be a four day week for us.  We are out of school on Friday, March 29 for the Good Friday holiday.

Blake   We've had a great week of Book Fair!  I've really enjoyed seeing you here with your children and seeing the joy on their faces as you eat with them and accompany them to the Book Fair.  The students always enjoy this week and look forward to it all year.  I want to thank all of the parent volunteers who gave their time to help with the cash registers and restocking each day!  We couldn't have done it without you!  I also want to recognize Mrs. Hines for the many hours she put in setting up the Book Fair products and working the cash registers.

Next week we will begin our 5th six weeks!  Report cards will go home Friday, March 8.  We have an early release on that Friday at 12:20 and then will be out of school the following week (March 11-15) for Spring Break!  After we return from Spring Break, students may begin wearing shorts again.
