  • FFA Members and Parents,

I need to relay two pieces of information to all current and future FFA members and their families. It is time to start making decisions regarding livestock projects for the upcoming show season, so I request any students wishing to show through FFA at the NCYE or any major livestock shows in 2013-2014 contact me soon. I would also like to inform you of two new Mildred FFA information pathways for the upcoming year. The time for purchasing animal projects (especially heifers, steers, lambs and goats) is upon us. Though many species can be purchased after the start of school in the fall, finding competitive animals at a reasonable price is much easier to do during the summer months while there is plenty of time to look for the animals. I will assist any FFA member wanting help finding show projects. Pen space in the Mildred I.S.D. Livestock Project Barn will be assigned soon. I have started a list of students that plan to have projects at the barn, so please contact me if you want to be on the list. It is very likely that the barn will fill up and space will be limited this year. If you are interested in a show animal and want my assistance, please contact me soon by emailing, texting or calling so I can help. The second item of business is two new ways information will be spread to FFA members and parents. I have started a FFA email list which I will use to send information to students and parents. If you have not given me your email address, please do so, and I can add you to the list. The second method of communication is the FFA page on the MISD website. On the MISD homepage, you will see a link to FFA under the “Departments” tab or the “Clubs and Activities” tab. I will be keeping the FFA page and especially the FFA Calendar up to date this year. It will contain important information for members and their parents, so please check it frequently. I want to say thank you for a great first year at Mildred! With such great FFA members and the support of their parents, I am looking forward to the successful future of the Mildred FFA. Thanks, Andy Calhoun, Agriculture Science Teacher/FFA Advisor
